Description

This course offers an applied clinical approach to the outpatient medical management of equines, with a special focus on emergency situations and their resolution in the field. Strategies for the care of peripartum emergencies are addressed, as well as the foundations for the recognition, diagnosis, and initial management of sick foals. It also delves into the nutritional and health approach to orphaned foals, along with the study of Rhodococcus equi infection, with an emphasis on early diagnosis, prevention, and rational treatment in production settings. It also analyzes common pathologies in adult equines such as equine asthma, colic, wounds, and other clinical emergencies, prioritizing their outpatient evaluation and treatment. Finally, practical criteria for decision-making, efficient use of resources, and organization of a basic first-aid kit for veterinary field practice are presented.
